Kit Adams may not know the five point palm exploding heart technique, but she is still a metaphorical kung fu master. That's because Adams, founder and owner of local pottery shop ClayWays, can wrestle a 25 pound block of solid earth into the shape of giant urn before you can say "Shaolin". She is not, however, invincible: ClayWays is having trouble in these lean economic times. This Saturday, Adams and the sweet-souled ceramics community she supports (and lovingly teaches) need you to throw dollar bills their way, so the store and studio can remain open.

Most ceramic materials are brittle, hard and full of tiny little holes, not unlike our cold, cold hearts (just kidding). The challenge of working in ceramics is to overcome these faults and make something that can stand the test of time. Zoe Comings aims for that goal and exceeds it by not only creating lasting structures, but also lasting beauty. Experience some of her work this weekend during the East Austin Studio Tour. Zoe's studio is part of the Pump Project, which is located at 702 Shady Lane.

Tonight's your chance to check out some home-baked goodness by some of Austin’s most talented artists—Just Been Fired, an annual group show at Gallery Lombardi, will feature a bevy of new ceramic works by artists Alejandra Almuelle, Ryan McKerley, and Sunyong Chung, among many others. This “mostly ceramic” show goes way beyond basic clay, though, to include variations of the medium, such as raku terracotta, tinted porcelain, high fire porcelain, and low-fire stoneware, all of which are used to create beautiful works that stretch the boundaries of traditional ceramics.
