As the trendiness of "going green" evolves more into an issue of long term sustainability, Austin continues to thrive when it comes to merging civic leadership, local business, and tactical implementation for more sustainable living. The U.S. Census Bureau has released some new 2005 numbers analyzing the national population. This batch includes more localized information for cities and states. According to this most recent census, Texas ranks 6th among states with the most people living in poverty, and 36th among states with the highest median household income. Austin has made an appearance on yet another top-ten list. According to the US Census Bureau, in 2004 Austin ranked #5 in a list of large cities with the highest percentage of people who have at least a bachelor's degree . The ever-so-hip Seattle comes in at the top of the heap, followed by San Francisco; Raleigh, N.C.; and Washington, D.C. An astonishing 51% of adults over the age of 25 in Seattle had at least a bachelor's degree.
Need a little extra spending cash? Wanna meet strangers by knocking on their doors? Wanna spend some quality time walking the streets in the beautiful spring weather? Then give the US Census Bureau a shout. The Bureau is preparing for its 2010 census and is implementing some new technology. So they figured they would give it a test run here in Austin, cause we're so tech-savy and whatnot.
