Titus Andronicus at Emo's [Show Preview]

Titus Andronicus at Emo's [Show Preview]

New Jersey rockers Titus Andronicus bring their indie-punk, shoegaze sensibilities to Emo’s tonight. The band features the combined musical powers of Patrick Stickles (vocals, guitar), Amy Klein (guitar, violin), David Robbins (keyboards, guitar) and Eric Harm (drums). Titus Antronicus is a name taken from one of Shakespeare’s early plays, which indicates the band’s obsession with tragic stories and literary influences, which obviously play into Stickles’ epic song crafting. more ›

Free Week Highlight: The Laughing, Cartright, Headdress, more at The Mohawk

Free Week Highlight: The Laughing, Cartright, Headdress, more at The Mohawk

Yes, it’s still Free Week, and it’s still freaking cold out there! Drown your Longhorn-related sorrows at the Mohawk tonight, as a whole mess of local bands once again swarm the venue’s indoor and outdoor stages. Le Diamant Brut: Cartright & The Ettes

Le Diamant Brut: Cartright & The Ettes

What’s the Deal: The Austin fivesome that is Cartright, which also happens to be the surname of the outfit’s singer, Ben, has a unique, authentic and raw sound that harkens to times long ago spent trekking through a barren, dust bowl era landscape or braving the open waters as a sailor who’s devoted his life to the sea. During performances, Ben and the band’s appearance (sometimes suspenders, a top hat, boots and beards) fits perfectly with the organic folk sound they assert full of raspy, whiskey-soaked choruses encouraging sing alongs, humming acoustic chords from an old guitar, foot stomping beats and plenty of beautiful flaws that make you despise over production. more ›

O'Death at The Mohawk

O'Death at The Mohawk

This Thanksgiving, let's reflect on the imminent end in store for all of us by flocking to The Mohawk and watching the cathartic sad-core punktry six-piece O'death, a relatively new addition to the neo-gothic string of depressing but rocking performers sporting songs about murder and snap button shirts (for some historical perspective, check The Handsome Family). more ›
