Capital Area Food Bank still needs your help and donations for Ike evacuees. The Office of the Attorney General warns Texas hurricane victims to be wary of possible clean-up scams. Urgent Help Needed at Capital Area Food Bank

The Capital Area Food Bank just put out an urgent call for emergency donations, saying that their donations are depleted, and that as of 2pm, no more emergency boxes could be filled onsite. They are using funds donated to buy more food, but if you are able to drop any food items off at the Food Bank, they are in desperate need of: peanut butter, canned meat (with pop-top lids), bottled water, and personal care items (shampoo, fem. hygiene, toothpaste, etc). Also desired: granola bars, diapers and wipes. The Food Bank, located at 8201 S. Congress Ave., will be accepting these donations through Friday. [Capital Area Food Bank of Texas Weblog] more ›

As part of the upcoming HAM-up Tweetup benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank, Tyson Foods put up a blog post with figures on the Austin-area hungry and how the food bank works with area non-profits to get food to those in need. Not only is the post enlightening, but beneficial: for every comment left on their post, Tyson resolves to donate 100 pounds of food (up to 35,000 pounds) to our food bank. State public utilities commission issues a yellow alert, asking Texans to conserve energy. It may not be a CapMetro shuttle you take to ACL later this summer. Pilot project in Travis and (part of) Williamson counties has found that 25% of drivers pulled over have no auto insurance. Yikes! Capital Area Food Bank running low on donations this summer.
