Out the Other's ACL Previews: The Flaming Lips, Charlie Sexton, Ben Harper and More
I swear, the last few previews are the hardest to write. It's not that I'm having trouble with them, it's just that I have SO much other stuff to do - shopping, packing, making sure I'm well-rested enough to cope with three days of non-stop awesomeness and the scorching heat that comes along with it. But my flight leaves tomorrow, so I promise I'll have the last few previews up by tomorrow morning when...
Changes to Come On Austin's Most Schizophrenic Street
In less than one month, the incoming class at The University of Texas will start walking the sidewalks of Guadalupe Street, listening to Nick Drake on their shiny iPods and buying every Bob Marley poster within a mile radius. These sidewalks, between 19th and 29th street, are affectionately known as The Drag, an area in a constant state of flux as businesses attempt tirelessly to keep up with the perpetual flakiness of an 18-24...
Walker, Hungarian Ranger
Dateline: Budapest. Mullet-wearing, cowboy boot-wearing, justice-keeping, Texas martial arts phenom Chuck Norris is close to putting another feather in his black belt. Or something. The emasculated, gelled-hair twenty-something guys on their mopeds smoking cigarettes and pleading on the cell phones with their mothers to let them stay out just another hour so they can sit around the fountain in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere and butcher Nirvana/Bob Marley songs on an acoustic guitar? Not so much.

Insert Weed Joke Here
Reggae fans rejoice! This Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, Auditorium Shores plays host to the 12th annual Austin Marley Festival. The largest reggae event in Central Texas, this festival features two days chock full of music, food and crafts, all in the name of honoring Bob Marley's message of "peace, tolerance, and non-violent change." Two decades after his death, that seems more appropriate than ever in these times.
