If you like punk in your twang and getting into shows for free, Lovejoy’s is serving up a mean cocktail tonight as Black Eyed Vermillion growls their way through the taproom. WhiskeyDick sets the stage with more straightforward southern rock that steadies its drunken swagger on the shoulders of classic country music. Austin cow punks Zero Skills pull the cork on tonight’s gig as they take a ranch hand’s buzz saw to the gnarled roots of country rock.
Note: we reported both on Vermillion and WhiskeyDick at a KAOS radio event three years ago.

Black Eyed Vermillion, Viva Le Vox, Izzy Cox and more at Beerland
Denizens of Beerland will see an eclectic mix of free-spirited punk dressed up in various musical guises tonight. Headlining are local "insurgent country" group Black Eyed Vermillion, who swirl together elements of bluegrass, folk, metal and grindcore into a rage-fueled, hellishly fun attack. It's a dark, dirty sound, punctuated by frontman Gary Lindsey's smoker-for-life vocals and primal screams.
Pastiche - On the Airwaves with the Pirates of KAOS Radio
Blame it on our fair city's populism, but secrets don't typically stay secret for very long here. The land of velvet ropes, VIP-only entrances and tucked-away, always-reserved tables at restaurants feels very far away. Even our secret shows and pirate radio stations are fairly conspicuous, and in the case of KAOS radio, you might stumble onto some of the movers and shakers while walking the dog or grabbing a drink in north Austin.
Blackeyed Vermillion, Scott H. Biram on KAOS Radio [3-5, Saturday May 9]
The one-man grit explosion that is Scott H. Biram moved us once to say, "He has a true stage presence that could be fairly compared to that of Clint Eastwood on film. The dude's more dude than most other dudes you will ever meet." Dude. And Black Eyed Vermillion features member's of Hank III's Assjack who make a cowpunk racket led by the gravel-voiced B.E. Vermillion.
