In honor of Austin's rite of spring known as Eeyore's Birthday Party, the Eastwoods Neighborhood Association recently commissioned a sculpture of the woebegone donkey, to be placed in Eastwoods Park--the original site of the annual fête. What Lloyd Birdwell started as a small picnic for students at the University of Texas has today swelled to a major annual festival with live bands; food vendors; adult beverages; games and whatnot, such as egg tossing and costume contests. You see, this Saturday, while you and your hedonistic friends are gallivanting around Eeyore’s Birthday Party, we’ll be slogging up hill after hill on our bike as part of the Hill Country Ride for AIDS. This annual event raises money to provide essential services to hundreds of people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas.
