Jason Bateman's Birthday Party: Teen Wolf Too
Austinist Preview: Emo's Anniversary with Glorium, Horse + Donkey, Faceless Werewolves. Matt Oliver of Sound Team
Friday night's Glorium reunion show marks the final pinnacle of Emo's 15th anniversary celebration. Glorium are one of the vital pages in Austin's long musical history. The band originally formed in San Antonio in 1991 and immediately began to make a name for themselves by using avant-garde aesthetics with lessons learned from the hardcore punk scene. The result was an explosion of emotional and musical creativity; pushing the boundaries of lyrical imagery and human...
Music Mondays Presents Harry Nilsson's Birthday Party
Sure, Harry Nilsson's birthday isn't actually until Friday. And some of you probably don't even know who he is. But neither of those things should stop you from partying at the Alamo tonight in honor of the late great songwriter, Grammy Award winner and all-around brilliant guy. If you're familiar with Nilsson, we obviously don't need to sell you on his wonderfully diverse and inventive pop music. But if you're not sure who he is,...

Austin Group Needs Money for Jackass
In honor of Austin's rite of spring known as Eeyore's Birthday Party, the Eastwoods Neighborhood Association recently commissioned a sculpture of the woebegone donkey, to be placed in Eastwoods Park--the original site of the annual fête. The sculpture, depicted by a model to the right, is being made, pro bono, by Austin architect/craftsman/sculptor/horse racer/cattle breeder Bob Coffee. Unfortunately, it looks as though the Eastwoods Neighborhood Association is short a few bucks of the total funds...

Austinist Giveaway: Scott Walker Import Vinyl, Screening Next Monday
Idiosyncratic American ex-pat Scott Walker's musical career spans over half a century long, from his early years as a pop star in LA's The Walker Brothers to his extensive solo recordings (albums one through four named Scott (1967), Scott 2 (1968), Scott 3 (1969), and Scott 4 (1969)). Having signed to Beggars Banquet-funded British indie label 4AD (Blonde Redhead, TVoR, Mountain Goats, The Birthday Party) in 2004, the cult figure has enjoyed a resurgence...
Sgt. Eeyore's Lonely Hearts Club Blast
Yes kiddies, it's time once again for the annual Eeyore's Birthday Party. What Lloyd Birdwell started as a small picnic for students at the University of Texas has today swelled to a major annual festival with live bands; food vendors; adult beverages; games and whatnot, such as egg tossing and costume contests. This fictional birthday party for our favorite depressed donkey is not about recreational drug use or the "hippie" subculture, it's about the community coming together and experiencing a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dark time…that and a bunch of "hippies" spacing out in the park.
Team Soup Peddler Needs YOU!
Actually, at the risk of sounding crass, what we really need at this point is your money. You see, this Saturday, while you and your hedonistic friends are gallivanting around Eeyore’s Birthday Party, we’ll be slogging up hill after hill on our bike as part of the Hill Country Ride for AIDS. This annual event raises money to provide essential services to hundreds of people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas. As government funding for such services continues to be cut, the beneficiary organizations rely more and more on the money raised from this ride to help the people who desperately need their assistance.

Booze and Books (Celebrate the 25th Birthday of the Writers' League of Texas)
We love writers and we love alcohol. And we love Texas. Therefore, you could probably deduce that we love the Writers' League of Texas, as well. You would be right. That is why we will be celebrating their 25th Birthday with them this Sunday at Stubb’s. The Writers' League promotes literacy and elevates the literary arts, one group of the arts that we feel does not get the attention or funding it deserves. So...

News Bits!
-Nearly two dozen of Austin's finest civic leaders gathered together today to declare their opposition to November 8th's Prop. 2 measure, which would effectively define marriage as solely between "one man and one woman." Among many others, Mayor Will Wynn let it be known that "a fundamental cultural characteristic of Texas is that we mind our own business" - something Great Hills Baptist Church pastor Michael Lewis was unaware of when he decried the...
Get Healthy Before Eeyore's
Seriously? Go to Eeyore's Birthday Party. It's the epitome of the Austin experience; we know people that are traveling down from other cities for this thing.
Ándale Ándale, Mamma, Eyore Eyore, Uh Oh!
Austin has built its reputation of being a fun, liberal, artistic and open community in part due to activities such as this weekend’s annual Eeyore’s Birthday Party in Pease Park. About 40 years ago, University of Texas Delta Tau Delta fraternity member Lloyd Birdwell and some of his buddies started this fictional birthday party, partly as a spring rite of passage and partly out of the desire to throw a big ol’ party in...
