Reckless Driver Kills Biker, Gets Probation

According to the D.P.S., Bradley Danz was speeding and driving his pickup on the wrong side of the road when he hit and killed Adam Raymond, who was biking in the other direction on Mount Gainor Road in Dripping Springs. Hays County District Attorney Sherri Tibbe brought a charge of "criminally negligent homicide" before a Hays County grand jury, but it decided not to indict Danz. Tibbe tried again, charging Danz with reckless driving. He was convicted last Friday. His punishment will be two-years probation.

Surrounded by the literal fruits of area vendors' labors, the proclamation that this week shall heretofore be known as Eat Local Week will ring from the booths of the downtown Austin Farmer's Market this morning, accompanied by a 24 carrot salute, trumpeting (or should we say "rooting") in a week of events that highlight the bountiful goodness that is to be had in our fine city.

The Downtown Austin Alliance has announced three winners in its bike rack design contest. The chosen racks were submitted by Ann Armstrong, Ben Harman and Kezia and Tom Simister. They will be installed at 401, 600 and 816 Congress Avenue. The winning designers are in the process of meeting with the DAA and working with the fabricators. Installation of the final racks is expected to happen next spring.
