In such a loud town, Matt Oliver of TV Torso and proprietor of the studio Big Orange has been awfully quiet about doing work with Daytrotter, the studio from Rock Island, Illinois that created the now-famous "Daytrotter Sessions."
Looking Back at 2011 With Big Orange and Daytrotter
Download: Hundred Visions Daytrotter Session
They used to be Corto Maltese, and they've changed the make-up of the lineup slightly, but they're still a tremendously underrated Austin band that deserves your attention. The Daytrotter Session is the first chance most of us have had to listen to any of these new songs recorded, and they're sounding even more '70s VU-influenced than ever. This is a good thing. Austinist Show Preview: Sound Team @ Emo's
Sound Team have been making intricate electro-pop for nearly five years but it was the release of their full-length Movie Monster in 2006 that garnered much deserved national recognition for the band. Produced by Michael McCarthy (and Sound Team) at their Big Orange Studio, the album has received heavy press coverage-- mostly positive but we could not get away without a mention of that Pitchfork review and bassist Bill Baird’s response. Good times. An appearance...
Austinist Artist Profile: Sound Team @ Emo's, This Saturday
Austin's own Sound Team was one of the best acts we caught at ACL this year - despite the blistering temperature and sporadic dust tornadoes, they played an unceasingly energetic set that made us (nearly) forget about our impending heat strokes. Live, theirs is synth-happy dancerock constructed from the supple layering of their dual keyboard/guitars, toe-tappingly catchy drum beats, and Matt O.'s big, blaring vocals. Their studio work is something you'll have to experience...
