After making plans to check out Bernie Worrell and George Clinton, the Austinist was reminded of a news story we heard last week. A new benefit has been added to the already long list of benefits associated with smoking marijuana. Everyone knows that a daily dose of alcohol helps make the heart stronger, but apparently so does THC. The study shows that THC helps to reduce the hardening of the arteries ... in mice. Hardening of the arteries is a precursor to heart attacks. The mice in this study were fed a high-cholesterol diet and then given daily doses of THC. The control group not only had their arteries clog up, they also had to endure countless hours of hearing their blunted brethren discussing the finer points of screwing with the man by refusing to master anymore mazes.

Funk legend Bernie Worrell, of Parliament-Funkadelic fame, touches down in our fair city next week for what promises to be a multi-media event of pure funksmanship. A new documentary, “Stranger: Bernie Worrell on Earth,” will be playing at the Downtown Alamo Drafthouse on April 11, 12 & 14. The movie features rare Parliament footage as well as interviews with musicians ranging from David Byrne to Mos Def. Worrell will be in attendance for the screenings on the 12th & 14th. And, as always, the Monday screening will only cost you a dollar (but no Bernie).
