Aussie singer-songwriter Missy Higgins and American piano maestro Ben Folds wear their hearts on their sleeves when it comes to their music, and we anticipate a couple of exhilarating sets this Saturday at Stubb’s. The cooling weather and the tasty BBQ along with Higgins’ affecting lyricism and Folds’ tongue-in-cheek approach should make for an extremely enjoyable evening. Higgins is supporting her second full-length On A Clear Night (released in the U.S. earlier this year on Warner Bros. + Reprise Records) while Folds will likely crank out tunes from his substantial catalog, including his third solo record Way To Normal (released last month on Epic Records).

It doesn't seem that long ago, but it has been nearly 10 years since Ben Folds Five were alternative radio kings with Whatever And Ever Amen. The success led to conflict within the band, which only managed one more album before a messy break-up.

"Psychedelics are almost irrelevant in a town where you can wander in a casino any time in the day or night and witness the crucifixion of a gorilla.*" We know you people love your fests, and while ACL may be a tough bill to beat, sometimes it's nice to get out of town. The Vegoose Music Festival in Las Vegas combines gambling, strippers, soon-to-be divorced men, all night parties and rock n' roll into...

Imagine you are a 14-year-old musician living in Australia, accustomed to recording songs for your punk rock band in your bedroom. All of a sudden, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth is singing your praises, and you sign to Grand Royal (the Beastie Boys’ now defunct label). Over the next 11 years, you release five solo indie-pop albums, start your own record label, and collaborate with artists such as Ben Kweller, Ben Folds, Petra Haden,...

While some of us might be suffering from Spring allergies, that doesn't stop us from seeking out the best new music for you to enjoy.

Singer-songwriter Glen Phillips first burst onto the music scene in the 90's as the lead singer of Toad the Wet Sprocket, a group of four guys from the laid-back, sun-drenched California beachside town of Santa Barbara. Remember "All I Want" or "Come Down"? After Toad broke up in 1998, Phillips went on to a fairly promising solo career, releasing in 2001 the highly acclaimed Abulum. This album was largely a reminiscence of days long...
