LAist is flashing a sad peace out to their editor Carolyn Kellogg with one hand and bumping knuckles with their new head typist L.A. blogger king Tony Pierce with the other. Where do ist editors go when they hang up the 'editorial we'? They take on MySpace, apparently. At least Ben Brown does. Austinist reminds us of the just rewards of less savory careers this week and then they witness the Arctic Monkeys and We......

Former Austinist editor Ben Brown's been busy with his current project, Consumating, formerly the hipster/geek equivalent of match.com. It looks like they've transformed the dating site into more of a social network ("a new way to find people who don't suck"), where one might find someone in their neighborhood -- or anywhere in the world, for that matter -- who's interested in, say, coffee and cigarettes. Check it out here.......

So this is why former Austinist editor Ben Brown was walking around with a miniDV cam during all of SXSW. Check out iFC's new show, "SXSW: Behind the Badge," before it airs on TV! [Video]......

Those of you who still aren't over last season's Real World: Austin can now finally hang out inside the warehouse space used to house the over-sexed, under-medicated twenty-somethings: Colorado-based Mexican restaurant chain Rio Grande is taking up residency at 301 San Jacinto starting this Saturday, alongside various and sundry props that appeared on the show. Like a purported 17-foot neon sign screaming "BIG TEX." Good gaud! Oddly enough, this makes it the first of......

We showed up late to the panels, after driving up to North Austin to procure a few dozen cases of alcohol -- to no avail, it turned out, as they'd somehow run out of a certain energized malt liquor entirely. How does a distribution center capable of stocking enough boxes of beer to replenish the Salton Sea run completely dry? Such is the ridiculous majesty of SXSW Interactive. After waiting in two or three......

This Thursday night at Ruta Maya, Ghostland Observatory, Tammany Hall and All Points Bulletin join forces to help raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. The bands are playing a gig benefiting the Texas 4000 for Cancer, a UT student organization whose mission is to spread awareness about cancer. The students’ main source of fundraising is their annual bike ride from Austin to Anchorage. Yes, that Anchorage! So come out to Ruta......

Once again, it looks like those of us who rely on public transportation on a daily basis could be faced with a strike of some sort, unless Cap City Metro and the unionized drivers and mechanics can come to terms. We are not very hopeful. Last night the Cap City Metro Board held an emergency meeting to discuss the problem. Union workers from the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1091 were told after the meeting......

Would you be surprised to know that Waco, Texas is home to a bunch of great bands? If so, you might be even more surprised to find out that there are so many great bands based out of or from Waco, that they've formed the Waco Co-op, "a collective of musicians who desire to create meaningful and creative music in the context of [their] relationship to each other." The co-op counts popular Austin groups......

Rags-to-riches success stories are few and far between these days, particularly the sort punctuated with "dot com" and "latest buzz" - two phrases that cropped up seemingly everywhere you turned only a few years ago. Which is why we're thrilled to announce that our former editor, one-time publishing mogul, general tech impresario and self-proclaimed Internet Rock Star has accomplished what none of us dared to imagine. Ladies and gentlemen, Ben Brown sold out to......

Austinist editor Ben Brown was interviewed by The Armadillo Podcast, a "weekly podcast of ostentatious interviews of Austinites famous and infamous, known and unknown, with the sole intent to convince my good friend Galia, an Israeli woman living way out in California, to move and live with us here in the land of the weird and the home of the armadillo." Armadillo Podcast's host Steven Phenix chats with Ben about living in Austin, his......

Aaron Behrens, a lanky, long haired fellow, dressed in a tight teeshirt and tight white pants, and Thomas Turner, tall, smoking, and drinking an unknown beverage out of a bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag, are sitting in my back yard. They're both wearing sunglasses, because they are in a band, and that's how it's done. We talk about music, and Austin, and good omens. The band is called Ghostland Observatory. They play......

According to Herr Sterling himself and noted in Ben Brown's previous post, Bruce has backed out on actually hosting this year's SWSX-i closing party. Instead, it will be a Wired sponsored event held on Tuesdy the 15th between 7:00pm-11:00pm at the American Legion Hall of Honor. Don't believe it's true? Well, you might try taking a peek at the Evening Events section of the SXSW-i site. Or you might not. We certainly can't make you.......

We have excellent bars, and Mexican food, and BBQ sauce comes out of a tap in between the hot and cold water in every house. And then, there is the yearly blossoming of 20 thousand UT co-eds into skirts and tank tops, so that they may frolic unencumbered in our many vegan coffee shops....
