Once upon a time a member of Deerhoof, Chris Cohen left that band and has made a new home for his sound in the poppy Cryptacize. After releasing the lovely Mythomania on Asthmatic Kitty, the band has regrouped as a four-piece and are touring in support of the album.

The Integrated Media Community, a "collective group of Austin-based film, music, interactive and arts professionals working to create a sustainable media economy in Austin, Texas," is throwing their second annual ATX Emerge party, which combine the talents of local filmmakers, artists and musicians. Tomorrow evening's party at the Mohawk features Belaire, Brazos, Foot Patrol, Freshmillions, Harlem, Sunset, The White White Lights, Ume, Zeale, and DJ Blissom. They'll also have a media room set up where you can see new video game and film work being presented. The event is free, but an RSVP (see box) is required.
When Park Ave. (featuring a certain Conor Oberst) broke up in 2001, Jamie Williams and Neely Jenkinks formed Tilly and the Wall, releasing Wild Like Children on Oberst’s Team Love label in 2004. Bottom of Barrels followed two years later, and this June, the band dropped their third full-length, O. (Buy it here.) O is actually untitled; it goes by the letter of the alphabet that best describes the frame of its artwork, and the revolving images within that “O” will be fan provided artwork! Tilly and the Wall’s video for the first single “Pot Kettle Black” premiered on Stereogum last month, and the band also garnered an Artist of the Day merit from SPIN in June.
The Mohawk on Friday is going to be absolutely busting out with music, as one of their patently awesome two-stages-for-one-ticket deals hits the scene. Getting the big print and final time slot on the two stages are Elf Power and Belaire, but they're just small pieces of what looks to be a good long night of song. So we'll break this down all methodical-like so you won't have to worry about missing anything, and you'll finally learn the wonderfulness that is six live (and actually quite good!) bands for less than an Alexander Hamilton.
