Black Star Co-Op unveiled the new location of the world’s first cooperatively-owned brewpub at a party for members and press this past weekend. The new site is at Midtown Commons, the transit-oriented development at the Crestview station along Cap Metro's Red Line.

We are very excited about the prospect of riding a fairly flat route from our house to the Triangle for New Belgium Brewery's Bike in Cinema. Tonight's feature is The Goonies, which has several of its own cycling scenes—most notably the one where Josh Brolin bikejacks Data's little sister and then, when forced to ride alongside the cheesedick driving a convertible Chrysler LeBaron, burns off the training wheels and is pitched over a cliff— is such a great film for them to hitch their wagon to, as it starts off with kids setting out on an adventure on, what else, their bikes.

The resultant fallout has been a spectacular example of marketing gone horribly wrong. Commenters on the Do512 RSVP page have all but declared war against the pale lager and its associated firms. A newly-created Facebook page entitled "Dos SuXX" has just under 200 members. And, in a perhaps overstated gesture, someone's even suggested launching a class action lawsuit.

Sure, we're all busy preparing for/indulging in SXSW debauched madness or liver-deep in pints of Guinness to honor ye ol' Irish. But that doesn't mean we don't have time to think about others. In fact, it is the perfect time to step outside of our self-absorbed states and think about, nay, do something for others. Our buddy Matthew Odam tipped us off to the St. Baldrick's Day event going on tonight at Mother Egan's at 7 p.m. Apparently dozens of men have raised money from sponsors and will shave their beards/heads/etc. for charity tonight. The St. Baldrick's Foundation fights to help cure children's cancer through raising awareness and funds for fellowships and research.

Music Preview: Clementine Coffee Bar Turns Three, Rocks.

For those with a hankering for a coffee drink, a panini, or some beer this afternoon, you'd be wise to consider a stop at Clementine Coffee Bar's 3rd Anniversary Bash. The popular Manor Road spot has lined up 11 local acts to celebrate their success, and all are welcome to join the festivities. We've always liked the fact that Clementine had Texas draft beers available like Big Bark and Fireman's #4 for those stopping by later in the day, and suspect this will prove especially useful this evening.

In a week positively spattered with less-than-fun news, some good news lives between the headlines. Old school Austin beer fans cried a collective, "Booo!" when it was announced that the Ginger Man's space was slated for demolition to make room for -- you guessed it -- a brand new high rise! Now those same fans can let loose a collective, "Yay!" or "Yee-haw!" or whatever feels right, as the Ginger Man has found a new home at 301 Lavaca St., just a beer-coaster's throw from their original location. Current plans have them opening in their new space by the end of the year.

The managers of the microbrewery (which is located near S. Congress and Ben White Blvd.) are proud to source as many local, domestic, and organic ingredients as they can and employ old world recipes with an updated domestic twist -- read more about their brewing practices here.

They're looking for submissions under five minutes long that "must include a storyline containing the concept of an underdog or be a mock ad, and must include a reference to Dogfish Head in the script or have Dogfish Head product placement in the film." High-minded cinéastes offended by product placement, sit down: that $2,000 prize for first place will buy you a brand-new copy of Final Cut Pro with plenty of change left over for whatever, and you'll also receive a toothsome pile of Dogfish Head goods. Submissions should be postmarked by February 15th (click the link and scroll down to download the entry form from the Dogfish Head site.) As always, expect the Alamo Drafthouse to foster just the right environment in which to fully enjoy the festival--they'll be screening various beer-related films and serving "beer dinners."

One of Texas' most popular and oldest independent craft breweries — Saint Arnold Brewing Company — is hot off a gold medal win at the Great American Beer Festival. Judges at the annual festival in Denver awarded Fancy Lawnmower Beer the gold medal in the German Style Kölsch/Köln Style Kölsch category. This is the first gold medal win for Saint Arnold's. Lawnmower beers, for the uninitiated, are light, crisp, and ideal for hot weather drinking....

Just in time for Saturday's big game, the UT alumni behind Independence Brewing Co. have decided to bring back their special pro-Longhorn beer. Last year's "Oklahoma Suks" was such a hit that the local brewery opted to increase production for the second annual run — over four times the amount of last year's batch hit stores last week. Despite this, they still anticipate that the limited-run brew will sell out. "When we first released Oklahoma...

Houston brewer St. Arnold released St. Arnold Divine Reserve 5 this week in Houston, DFW, San Antonio, and Austin. The Divine Reserve label goes on St. Arnold's single batch beers, and they sell out quickly. Reserve No. 5 is a Russian Imperial Stout which is a very big, bold stout with coffee flavors. Early ratings on RateBeer.com give it a 98 out of 100. Find it at Grapevine, Spec's, Whip In, Whole Foods or Central...

UT Austin dropped from its much-heralded top spot in this year's rankings of the country's Best Party Schools, published in The Princeton Review's annual "Best Colleges" survey. Based on input from over 120,000 students across the nation, the rankings are a decent barometer of general public opinion among the notoriously fickle college set. Students were asked to rate universities based on "use of alcohol and drugs, hours of study each day, and the popularity...

Our first experience with Independence Brewing Company came just a few short years ago when browsing the beer aisle at a nearby Austin grocer. Shuffling past the quick favorites (Lone Star) and growing tired of the old standbys (Shiner) we noticed the logo of a shaggy-haired kid jumping, cannonball-style, into a pool not unlike Barton Springs. With curious minds and ever-growing sobriety, we jumped in and discovered what has quickly become one of our...

Our first experience with Independence Brewing Company came just a few short years ago when browsing the beer aisle at a nearby Austin grocer. Shuffling past the quick favorites (Lone Star) and growing tired of the old stand-by's (Shiner) we came upon the logo of a shaggy-haired kid jumping, cannonball-style, into a pool not unlike our own Barton Springs. With curious mind and ever-growing soberness, we delved further to discover what has quickly become...

The June 2007 issue of Beer Advocate Magazine lists Austin as one of "Nine Great Beer Towns You Didn't Know Were Great Beer Towns" (pp. 22-29). The article lists Austin among other underappreciated beer towns such as Eugene, Oregon and Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic. We're personally honored and flattered to have been grouped in with these other great beer places, but we're not sure Austin is so deserving. Their list of establishments that justify...

Texas Swing is a family-friendly event that features live music by local favorite Alvin Crow, barbeque by Scholz’s, and free...

When the people behind Vice Magazine throw a party, it's safe to assume that much booze will be enjoyed, and, on more special occasions, that buildings may partially collapse. All in the name of good fun. Meanwhile, Harley Davidson recently spawned the latest hellion in its family of meaty motorcycles: the "Nightster" is an ultra-low sportster designed, as its 27-year-old creator put it so succinctly, "to look illegal." We know precious little about fancy...

With great weather, a social atmosphere, and big crowds, there were many good times to be had at last year's Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival Sunday Fair in Georgetown. Having braved the long drive, we found a huge, beautiful park filled with white tents full of salsa, BBQ, chocolate, tamales, and copious amounts of booze. This is probably one's best chance to experience the gluttony of the THCWFF at a moderate cost,...

Believe it or not, there's a bunch of activities going on around town this week other than SXSW. This week's IST List won't include our usual bevy of music and film events; for those, we recommend that you check out our Interactive Guide to SXSW Parties and the Other Side Guide, respectively. We'd also like to welcome LAist editor Tony Pierce and Gothamist arts editor Jen Carlson, both of whom will be joining us...
