The Bacon Takedown returns to Austin on Sunday, March 11 with its 3rd annual amateur bacon cooking competition. The event, sponsored by Hormel Foods, is hardly vegetarian friendly, with chef-testants focused on whipping up unique dishes featuring everyone’s favorite pork product.

Food: Bacon (The Restaurant) Opens Today
For those of you who have gone whole hog on the bacon bandwagon, Bacon, the freshly minted eatery opening up shop today in downtown Austin, could be just your cup of tea. The pork-fueled grand opening starts at 7 a.m. and runs all the way until 11 p.m. Swing by for your bacon fix, or at least consider stopping in for breakfast, which they serve all day.

Foreign and Domestic, a new restaurant concept by chefs/owners Ned and Jodi Elliott, opens on May 20 in the North Loop area, just a few blocks west of local favorites Room Service Vintage and The Parlor. The location was an old skate shop, but now boasts an inviting-yet-industrial vibe that perfectly fits the high-quality, quirky dishes.
