Fun Fun Fun Fest is just around the corner and today we feature Kevin Barnes and his merry gang of electro-pop connoisseurs that comprise Of Montreal. Barnes has garnered infamy this year thanks to his shenanigans, but synth-powered melodies and instantly catchy chorus’ remain his focal outlet. The wonderful folk at Polyvinyl Record Co. have provided us with the band’s brand new video, “Gronlandic Edit” off this year’s Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?......

Minus The Bear’s third full-length, Planet Of Ice was released this past August on Seattle based Suicide Squeeze Records. The album was produced by (former keyboardist) Matt Bayles and Chris Common. Minus The Bear formed in 2001 and has since developed a knack for churning out experimental indie-rock enhanced by complex time signatures and abrupt rhythm changes, as well as occasional employment of jazz standards. Add to this Dave Knudson’s distinct two-handed tapping style......

The Melvins have been around for over two decades and have influenced plenty of hard-rock acts in that period, either directly, or indirectly. Comprised of (permanent members) Buzz Osbourne and Dale Crover, the band recently added Coady Willis and Jared Warren to the line-up. The newer members will be on double duty tonight as they both make up 100% of the opening act Big Business. The Melvins’ brand of metal -- a droning sludge-fest......

Lions held their own recently amidst a who’s who of Texas talent at the 2007 Wall Of Sound Festival. The Austin act was one of the few to make sense of the commotion that was Stage 3, generating incessant guitar riffs supplemented by vocalist Matt Drenik’s energy and howls to successfully satisfy a somewhat disgruntled crowd. The no-nonsense rock n’ roll band brings its brand new album, No Generation (produced at The Bubble Studio), and......

Do Make Say Think blend blistering rock guitars with numerous other soundscape generating instruments to create sophisticated and epic compositions of the finest caliber. The Toronto outfit captivated us with a rousing performance (when they opened for Broken Social Scene) last year at Stubb’s. The band’s use of an assortment of unconventionally obtained audio along with their application of jazz standards makes for a truly unique post-rock sound. Largely instrumental, Do Make Say Think have......

It did not take long for us to fall in love with Brothers And Sisters’ sunny side up folk-rock as heard on their eponymous full-length debut. The band specializes in pop tinged alt-country with melodies reminiscent of '60s era California and harmonies fit for any decade and state. They recently finished recording a new EP in L.A. -- a five song effort including three new songs, an alternate version of “Sunday Living”, as well......

Many moons ago, a band named Weezer released a couple of solid records. Featured on bass and backing vocals on those albums was one exceptionally talented individual named Matt Sharp. Besides his contributions to Weezer, Sharp has been involved in a number of other projects -- occasionally solo, but most notably the lovable act named The Rentals. The Rentals released two albums (Return Of The Rentals and Seven More Minutes) in the 90’s. The band......

Danny Taylor and Simeon Coxe III created The Silver Apples in 1967 in New York City. With Simeon supplying the vocals and synth, and Taylor providing the percussion, the duo created psychedelic soundscapes accentuated by electronic beats. Their name was coined from a William Butler Yeats poem while musically, the duo employed all the tricks of the trade that might seem fairly standard now but were truly innovative at the time. Simeon utilized multiple audio......

Heavy Metal -- the phrase has been used in various connotations since Black Sabbath (arguably) generated the first metal ‘sound’ back in the late 60’s. Ever since, the genre has fluctuated between differing standards and floated through a number of decades.
