The history of Emo’s is mostly speculative, and clouded in rock and roll mythos. In the first place who is this “guy named Emo” who started the whole thing by opening the first Emo’s in Houston? And what sort of mother names her child Emo? Furthermore, how did the Austin satellite grow from its humble origins as a sleeze-punk club into the powerhouse it is today? Looking back you can only gee-whiz at the amount of talent that has been in through those doors, and your ears might bleed a little too at the thought of some of the more punishing, less talented openers and headliners that are a given at any club.
