By now you've heard about the three-night-stand Spoon has at Stubb's in July. We're excited about it too; and we're presenting night three along with KVRX (that's July 11). The (somewhat) local heroes will be playing tunes from their rich catalog as well as songs from their forthcoming full-length and new EP Got Nuffin.

We definitely want to see you at our Local Music Is Sexy 7 party on Saturday night at the Pure Volume House (RSVP) but we have to mention that one of our favorite local bands White Denim is back in action on the same night at Red Eyed Fly. The trio was truly amazing at our Local Music Is Sexy 5 shindig last SXSW; we caught up with James Petralli from the band this week to assess the band’s plan for a new record in 2009; read our interview further below.

There’s no hiding from it -- SXSW will take over our streets starting this weekend. We don’t think you should have to wait until the official music kick-off on the 18th to take in some of Austin’s finest bands so we bring you Local Music Is Sexy 7 this Saturday at the ever popular Pure Volume House. (RSVP here -- 21+ only.)

Austinist Presents: F*cked Up, Annihilation Time, Iron Age [Emo's Saturday]

Besides all the artsy-fartsy stuff, these lovable Canucks are quite possibly the most fun live band performing in the modern era.

Austinist Presents: Titus Andronicus, Los Campesinos! [@ the Parish Room Friday Night]

We’ve been crushing on Los Campesinos! since they appeared in 2006, but 2008 was definitely their year to shine. They managed to squeeze out two amazing albums, Hold on Now, Youngster…; and We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed. We’re already dusting off our dancing boots in preparation for Los Campesinos! coming to town January 30. And we’re oh so proud to be presenting this performance along with 101X. It’s all going down at the Parish, where New Jersey natives Titus Andronicus will join in as support.

Toronto hardcore futurists F*cked Up open their soon-to-be-classic new album, Chemistry Of Common Life, with a thirty second flute solo, and song lengths average between four and five minutes, eternities in punk time.

Austinist Presents: Tapes 'n Tapes @ the Parish

We're proud to present Tapes 'n Tapes at the Parish on January 29, supported by Harlem and Wild Light. Their latest album, Walk It Off, takes the band emphatically beyond 2006's debut, The Loon with haunting keys, gritty guitars and lots of pop energy. The Parish should be the ideal place to see them play, its casual intimacy and excellent sound will undoubtedly suit them well.

In less than two days, we'll be hosting our big annual pre-ACL party, Local Music is Sexy IV, Thursday night's soiree will feature Austinites The Lemurs, The Corto Maltese, and Brazos on the outside main stage, with DJs Car Stereo (Wars), Ceeplus Bad Knives*, and Markus with a K supplying dance-party jams inside alongside Magic Surprise. We're also thrilled to be bringing in Seattle indie rockers Say Hi To Your Mom* as our headliners. What's...

On the eve of ACL Fest, we're gonna turn off our laptops, put on our drinking shoes, and head over to the Mohawk, because Austinist is hosting Local Music is Sexy IV. An annual tradition since its inception in 2005 (back when the 'hawk was the Velvet Spade, and folks were still arguing over the smoking ban), Local Music is Sexy showcases a bunch of promising young Austin bands and DJs that we're most excited...

You’ve probably heard it through the grapevine that Brothers and Sisters is making quite an impression here in A-town. It seems that everywhere we turn, their name pops up in reference to a buzz they’ve produced in our local scene, so strong it threatens to drown out all indie-rock competition in a five hundred mile radius. We say kudos. With an influx of great bands like them, our scene’s standards have been raised ever...
