7th Annual Film & Food Party Rolls Out the Red Carpet Tomorrow Night [Austin Film Festival]

The Austin Foodie scene has truly exploded over the last couple of years, exposing our growing metropolis to so many opportunities to eat tasty food and drink delicious drinks. It is overwhelming to consider just how long it would take, and just how many pounds we would gain, in order to experience the best of what Austin has to offer in the dining realm. Thankfully, over the last seven years, the Austin Film Festival's Film & Food Party has been able to compress all of the tasty business around town into one night of bites, booze and bidding.

In these tough economic times, wouldn't we all just relish the opportunity to pretend to be wealthy? Well, luckily Pump Project Art Complex is providing one such chance with their Pretend You Are Rich Art Auction taking place on Saturday. The faux-riche event centers around the art auction where bidding starts at $3,000; winning bidders are then granted a $3,000 instant rebate. There will be a silent auction, running from 7-10pm, and a live auction hosted by Coldtowne Theater's Arthur Simone that will begin at 8pm. Both auctions will raise money for Pump Project Art Complex, a non-profit art studio and gallery space that is no doubt feeling the recession pinch.

Earlier this morning, Tamara Hoover posted the following announcement to her MySpace blog: Hello all. Under advice of my lawyer (and not without great resistance on my part) I have agreed to settle the matter with AISD out of court. With this agreement the district asked that I resign my position as an art teacher at Austin High School. My legal bills were mounting and my lawyer felt that the settlement was in my...

On mornings after a particularly nasty night of drinking, the only thing that coaxes us out of bed is the thought of stumbling over to nearby Tacodeli and ordering up a plate of delectable breakfast tacos (our favorite: eggs, chorizo and avocado on wheat). We happened to stop by this morning on the way to work, and found out about a neat charity fundraiser they're throwing tomorrow night:

Apparently, the doors are closing on downtown booze-and-dance stalwart, The Copper Tank Brewery. Rumor has it that the owners of Ringers Sports Bar will be opening a new sports bar mecca at the 504 Trinity Location. In order to cut some of their losses, The Copper Tank will be holding a public auction at the bar this Saturday. The auction begins at 10am and goes until they get rid of everything or get tired...

It's well known around here that Austin loves our wine. And yesterday, wine loved Austin back!

High on Austinist's list of things we love about this city are our countless lakes, springs, and rivers. Diving into Barton Springs is the perfect remedy for a scorching summer day, and in any season Town Lake provides the ideal backdrop for an early morning run. On a higher level, we feel that natural resources like these serve as the cornerstones of our outdoor community. Without them, we'd likely be as desolate and dry as, say, everywhere else in Texas. Consider just for a second Austin stripped of our hiking trails, swimming holes and green fields and you quickly see that we'd be giving up a significant part of our identity, as well. That's why we're happy to have the Save Our Springs Alliance, whose chief purpose is to protect these environmental resources (namely, the Edwards Aquifer, Barton Springs and the greater Hill Country region).
