Attic Ted is a San Marcos-based collective whose music can loosely be described as circus freak show meets geek apocalypse. Led by organist/singer Grady Roper, the band conjure up a slurring waltz of the weird using bizarro guitar effects, samplers, a Hammond organ and a cello. It's music that is shot through with undeniably trippy melodies but never manages to get on-kilter, spinning like a wobbly top that crashes after two or three minutes. It equally could serve as the soundtrack to a Touch of Evil-esque mezcal binge on the Mexican border or a demented house party of freaks and geeks. When he's not playing music, Roper makes mixed media visual art and runs the label Pecan Crazy, which has released all four of Attic Ted's LPs, as well as a new 7" from the group. more ›

In Austin, we’ve got so much weird that it needs in-depth classification. For example, you’ve got the guy-inexplicably-dressed-as-a-panda type of weird, and the guy-inexplicably-vomiting-blue-stuff-all-over-the-bus weird. We’ve got happy weird and sick/sad weird, epic weirdness and little sprigs of weird popping up all over the place.
