Although they have occasionally been classified as post-grunge, California’s Silversun Pickups inject enough ethereal panache into their oft-bludgeoning oft-dreamy tunes to distinguish themselves from the scores of generic modern-rock outfits. They first gained prominence on the national scene with 2006’s Carnavas and the ubiquitous hit “Lazy Eye.” They’ve performed in Austin numerous times since, including that somewhat eyebrow raising but inevitably profitable opening slot for Metallica at the Rock Band gig at Stubb’s during SXSW 2009.
