More Wristbands Available Wednesday: At least a few of the coveted SXSW wristbands will be sold via the conventional route this year. The Austin Chronicle reports that 400+ wristbands priced at $165 will be on sale from 9:30am on Wednesday 3/12 at Waterloo Records. These wristbands do not require an local ID, so out-of-towners can finally get their show at wristbands not obtained through nefarious means. It's not just the new upper deck and fishbowl green room (complete with its own bar and baby grand), it's more than the secret shows, and it's certainly something other than the Beertunie (that's a High Life garnished with an olive): it's the top rated bar in America, and it's our very own Mohawk. ...

It's been a big year for local acts. Big name bands like Spoon, Iron & Wine and Okkervil River made a huge impact on the independent music scene world-wide, while up and coming acts like White Denim and Moth!Fight! captured our attention at the indie rock water cooler all year long. As rising hopes and swelling egos swept the town alongside buzz and bravado, we parted ways with bands like SOUND Team and Clap!Clap!. ...

Editor's note: My Ex-Boyfriend's Band is a reoccurring column that features the opinions and insight of the author, not necessarily reflective of the Ist network as a whole. Thank you for reading! For the times they are a-changin'. And the music festivals are a-changin' with them. Even Dylan, who declined to take the stage at Woodstock in 1969, evolved into the 2007 Austin City Limits headliner. With SXSW, Fun Fun Fun and the C3......

In 1997, Carl Newman started a side project called The New Pornographers in Vancouver for fun. The cast of characters included the ridiculous gifts of both Neko Case and Destroyer's Dan Bejar, and an indie-pop collective for the ages was born. Now touring behind their fourth album Challengers, Newman and the other New Pornographers have somehow managed to continue the project in addition to each pursuing their solo aims. The band seems to grow in......

You may have already purchased tickets, or you might have been our lucky winner last week (Dax Riggs post-show included), but what you didn't know at the time was that local heartthrobs the Lemurs would be opening. The Lemurs are an impenetrable Austin mainstay, and they have been very busy these last couple months. They headlined our Local Music Is Sexy IV party ACL weekend, then went on tour, then said goodbye to their long......

Dr. Dog has pawing at indie-stardom for quite some time now, although you may not have noticed. You've definitely heard them popping up on friends' badass mix cds, playing wistfully in the groggy mornings after one night stands, and blaring at house parties. Nonetheless, they have somehow escaped popularity on a larger scale which, in our opinion, is long overdue. Need your memory jogged? Think of a supergroup of reincarnated Flower-Power badasses effortlessly combining......

KLRU-TV will be taping an episode of Austin City Limits this Thursday with singer-songwriter (and guitarist extraordinaire) John Mayer. You may not have noticed, but Maker Faire is just around the corner—less than two weeks away on October 20-21. Among all of the homemade, groovylicious goods, we’re especially excited about the Zimbabwean-style Rattletree Marimba band—playing their gigantic instruments, which are hand-crafted by a band member. We first saw the group while hauling our sweaty, sticky selves home from ACL. Right there on Barton Springs Road, Rattletree was infusing the Heineken-sponsored, AT&T corporate-ness of ACL......

Milking the last days of summer in an attempt to hook up? If so we suggest you turn your attention to the information that we've just stumbled across, because apparently there was some sort of muzak festival that all of the kids are talking about on the interwebs. So if you are one of those cool kids, you best get out there and see if there's any action to be had. If you have......

As of this writing, 911 in Hays County is out. How much does that suck? A backup system (of sorts) is being used. The reason the fiberoptic line was cut and 911 is out? Bees. The fire at ACL was the result of a propane leak, AFD says. Austin is the most congested medium-sized city in the nation. Um, yay? Woman dies in North Austin house fire this morning. Remember the Houston office building......

M.I.A.'s Friday ACL performance felt so seductive because it was both spicy and sweet; but what else can you expect from a girl who salts and peppers her mango? She burst onto stage wearing pink pedal-pushers, white trainers, wrap-around glasses and war paint, all the while shimmying her heart out to Kala's "Bamboo Banga." Her dancing seemed confounded by tentative limb placement, and it marked her as one extremely sexy dork. (Hawt!) It's this......

Same thing, another week. As you move on to the next line on the calendar, you're still out there trying to make a connection. Sadly you let most of them slip by without saying a word. Maybe it’s an aftereffect of the heat and shoulder-to-shoulder swaying at ACL, but we’re feeling particularly groovy today. The Austin Cinematheque understands, as it’s all peace, love, and Brigitte Bardot in tonight’s screening of Contempt at the Texas Union Theatre. Okay, so not so much with the peace. Director Jean-Luc Godard takes on the shady world of filmmaking and the lengths one must go through to see an artistic vision through to the bitter......
