This weekend culminates on April 20th, 4:20 even, and it’s no surprise than many of Austin’s inhabitants aim to celebrate this cultural holiday in fine fashion come Sunday. But before we get to that lofty milestone, local lawyer and musician Charlie Roadman hosts the Third Annual Marijuana Law for Musicians seminar on Friday at The Mohawk. The presentation is free and starts at 7 p.m. Come find out what you can get away with in Travis County and also sign up for a chance to win two free Radiohead tickets for their show in Dallas on May 18th.

The Secret Show is a collective of Austin musicians who are dedicated to bringing music to the most out-of-the-way and beautifully unusual corners of Austin. Their 4th performance in the series took place on Tuesday night, in a drainage ditch behind Ricky Guerrero park, with a wall covered in graffiti as a backdrop and a few dozen fans and friends in attendance. The shows are always performed with short notice, announced on the group's...

Photo by Veronica Meewes on flickrAs expected, this year’s Stitch was both fun and overwhelming. We tried to take it all in, circling around the booths bundled under Austin Convention Center many, many times. However, it really is impossible to experience everything thing unless you dedicate at least three hours to paint a Carlo Rossi jug, sew a sweater at First Samples, watch the runway show… and then, of course, shop! The latter was easy....

Ed Note: Austinist and Prototype Vintage hosted the media tent at this year's Fun Fun Fun Fest. Throughout the weekend, we invited festival artists and audience members alike to come and have their portraits taken—what you see above is the result of two days' worth of impromptu photo shoots, featuring everyone from Of Montreal and Final Fantasy to the good people of APD and the friendly backstage security guard, Dylan. At the regal Riverbend Centre on Saturday night, Joanna Newsom proved why she’s one of today’s most iconoclastic and oddly appealing musicians: not only did she mesh shockingly well with the ultra-classy Austin Symphony Orchestra, but she also managed to get in trouble for hauling a bottle of Maker’s Mark onto stage. And it’s in this almost-accidental appeal to both sides of the concert-going spectrum—as well as an almost embarrassing wealth of talent—that she...

Now that the summer rains are finally over, progress on the new Mueller Redevelopment is proceeding at a swift pace. With the credit crunch from the sub-prime market slowing new home construction in many parts of the country and foreclosures rising rapidly, it remains to be seen whether Austin really is as immune as some analysts predict, or is merely a bubble looking for a pin. If you can't view the Flash slideshow above,...

Dr. Dog played a ramshackle set of rock to a more or less appreciative audience (many of which brought to mind Deadheads of the '60s, '70s and on) at the Parish on Thursday night. Their songs could have used a plastic surgeon to give them at least the superficial appearance of the tight melodies and songwriting of the 'Beatlesesque' moniker they've been awarded in some reviews. The true standout of the evening were openers...

The first two of six new commuter rail trains arrived in Austin this week. The diesel-electric trains trains, the last of which should arrive by late spring, were purchased from Swiss manufacturer Stadler Bussnang AG ("We Track Clever Solutions" -- get it?) for $34 million. Cap Metro plans to start testing these cars next month along the rail line from Howard Lane and Mopac down to 47th Street and Airport Boulevard—each will be run...

In Austin, you can expect to find good music anywhere on a Friday night. Over at the Mohawk last Friday, the Japanese metal band Boris delivered more than just good music: most notably fog machines and a gong. Photos and copy contributed by Nash Cook....

Jenna Bush presented her book, Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope, along with a short video about UNICEF to an audience of more than 300 this Wednesday. The book's photographer, Mia Baxter, was also present, but did not speak to the audience. By all accounts, Jenna Bush is not pregnant as Wonkette has been reporting; it's just her taste for baggy, sack-like clothing. Photos by Joel Nihlean and Thomas Smith If you can't view...

Not sure what to do with that broken-down pile of pink plastic and purple wheels that little Kaitlyn hasn't played with for years? Why, turn it into a robot! Equal parts junked-out Barbie Jammin' Jeep and cleverly programmed electronic components, robot makers use more than a little artistry plus some innovative engineering—not to mention plenty of determination and elbow grease—to create some zippy, sizable bots. This weekend at Maker Faire, ACC, Robot Group, Capitol...
