interactive_mixer2.jpgYou know how Texas has those new Film Incentives dollars to throw around now? Well, they're not limited to movies and Friday Night Lights only. The gaming industry gets a piece of that, too. And since there are over 50 gaming studios already in Austin (not to mention the availability of increasingly slick development/programming courses) it's a given that gaming will continue to blow up here in the Capitol City.

But all that's a major "duh" to anyone who's signed up for the Austin Game Developers Conference, which, um, boots up today and lasts through Friday, promising cross-disciplinary panels and seminars aplenty--touching on everything from designing games for the blind(!) to women in gaming to managing World of Warcraft.

To kick off the opening of the conference, Austin GDC will team up with the SXSW ScreenBurn Festival (which, come South By time, showcases the newest hotness in gaming) for an industry mixer tonight at the Beauty Bar. Complementary drinks will be provided, the DJ stylings of Ill Collins will entertain, and all attendees may register to win a free SXSW Interactive Badge. The mixer is open to Austin GDC passholders and industry professionals who RSVP (and are approved by SXSW ScreenBurn). Please RSVP to Lindsay Muse, and remember not to let things get too heady with the free-flowing drinks and the mega LOLs: you've got some serious networking to do, you young creative.
