As the weather gets chilly, some of Boston’s best outdoor shopping venues are also getting ready to pack up for the season. Two Green Line drivers who hit things—in one case a train car, in another a person—over the past week tested positive for drugs and alcohol. The driver in Friday's crash had cocaine in his system, while the man operating a rear car in Monday's incident had a blood alcohol level of more than the MBTA limit of .02 but less than .08. The drivers have been suspended without pay until they can be fired. An... [continue]
Continuing the tradition started last Friday, the Green Line was again slow taking folks to work. A disabled train at Arlington caused 25-30 minute delays for commuters this morning, and the issue does not appear to have been resolved. Our inbound Green Line commute wasn't too bad, but many of our coworkers are trickling in late. Did anyone else have problems on the Green Line this morning?... [continue]
To continue our Thanksgiving series, we bring you a scintillating suggestion for a vegetarian—nay, vegan (and raw!)—Thanksgiving. Grezzo Restaurant (69 Prince Street), which serves locally grown vegan raw food—basically everything that Thanksgiving isn't—is offering a special Thanksgiving dinner menu for those who want to get out of the kitchen and into raw food. The menu is available for pick-up between November 5 and 26; just order (by calling 857-362-7288) a day or two ahead of... [continue]

Weeks after JP Moms reportedly drove a mom to the 'burbs, Twitter Moms are massacring a Motrin ad with their tweets. Jessica Gottlieb started the fight, saying "I wore my baby while you got an MBA," which is apparently supposed to be some kind of insult, though we'd rather get an MBA than wear a baby. MotrinMoms has now eclipsed Obama (sooo passe now that he's elected) as the biggest search on Twitter. The... [continue]

Local boy Patrick Dunlea was eliminated on the premiere episode of Top Chef this week, but he'll always be a top chef in our hearts. William Fitzsimmons is the Zach Galifianakis of folk: bearded, funny, fierce. As the Jets and Pats duked it out on the field Thursday night, William Fitzsimmons, his guitar, and his beard wrestled with various foes on stage at Johnny D’s in Somerville. Fitzsimmons battled bandmate Jonny in a facial hair contest (the beard won out over Johnny's handlebar mustache), resisted the urge to make more bad jokes (though he did make plenty), and conquered the... Pecha Kucha means "chit chat" in Japanese. It's also the name of an arts and design event that started in Tokyo in 2003 and has since spread its wings. The forum is simple: 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide, talk, hope people are listening over the bar noise. The first Pecha Kucha Boston was held at the Harvard Graduate School of Design on April 21, 2007; Boston's sixth Pecha Kucha took place last Wednesday at... [continue]
Massachusetts supporters of gay marriage are gathering at City Hall today at 1:30 as part of Join the Impact, a nationwide movement to protest Proposition 8. This proposition recently passed in California and will amend California's constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Since the government should not legislate love, and because amending the state constitution would invalidate thousands of marriages that have already taken place, we join in... [continue]
