Pho Hoang can be found appropriately triangulated between Andiamo, a Jack in the Box, and a martial arts school. The service and decor are about what you'd expect ("barely noticeable"), and the proprietor of has a delightful manner of interacting primarily with two words: "Yeah," and "OK." The bare-minimum vibe should be taken as part of its charm; expect your bowl of soup or noodles to land at your table within a minute or two of ordering, provided, of course, that you can get somebody’s attention during the busy lunch hours.

The Sweet Life: La Dolce Vita Recap
While the emphasis of La Dolce Vita is certainly on the food, the night was beautiful with the crisp lake breeze, beautiful décor, and incredible setting. Proceeds from La Dolce Vita go directly to supporting the AMOA’s art exhibits and education, showing us that gorging yourself on food has consequences other than the negative ones on your waistline. The sweet life, indeed!

Austin Bites: Swad
Do not, repeat, do not go to Swad expecting saag paneer or chicken tikka masala, lest you turn into one of those people who posts irrationally angry reviews on Yelp. Swad's serves southern Indian/Pakistani food, which is totally different, lighter (to a point), and completely vegetarian. Best that you wipe all previous northern Indian dining experiences off your hard drive before venturing Swad's way.

Austin Bites: Torchy's Tacos (Trailer Park & Eatery Location)
Torchy's can be found alongside Shuggie's Burgers & Seafood in the South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery, where picnic tables line a gravel parking lot. At night, the place glows with holiday lights, making it a perfect spot for midnight grub after a rock show, or a quick dinner before heading to a movie.
Hey Burnet Road! [New Cupcake Shop Coming Your Way]
A brief stop in the new digs, still under construction, led to a chat with Wes Hurt, who co-owns and operates the operation with Brian Morris.

Austin Bites: Eat It Like You Stole it at Zocalo
If you have friends who live in Clarksville, you probably tire easily of all their bragging about the 'hood, with all of its "walking" distance to delicious restaurants, wine bars, drugstores, $3.00 cab rides, blah, blah blah. The rest of Austin can drive/CapMetro/scoot/bike there just fine, gracias.

La Dolce Vita XIX
One of Austin's most anticipated annual culinary events (voted "Best Food Event" by the 2008 Austin Chronicle Readers Poll) returns to the lakeside Laguna Gloria location of the Austin Museum of Art this Thursday from 6-9pm. Hallmarked by a bacchanal theme, this 19th annual event features the foodie fare of more than 50 of Austin's top food purveyors (including some of our favorites like Hey Cupcake!, Roaring Fork, Sweet Tempered, Ranch 616 and Tacodeli) as well as dozens of wines provided by Twin Liquors. Savvy Vodka will also be on hand, as well as the of-so-superlatively-delicious Paula's Texas Spirits.
Austin Bites: Olivia
The concept of "local food treated well" in restaurants certainly isn't new; Alice Waters pioneered it with Chez Panisse in the 1970s. But the trend has picked up a lot of steam in recent years, with the increasing focus on locally-grown organic food. The latest Austin entrant in this genre is Olivia, which arrives under the guidance of executive chef and owner James Holmes and chef de cuisine Morgan Angelone, formerly of Asti. Joining the ranks of Uchi and Wink, Olivia is a welcome new part of Austin's increasingly cosmopolitan dining scene.

Austin Bites: Péché, or Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
In Austin, it is hard to find quality French fare at low prices, but Péché may now be here to fill that void. With a menu of rich and savory dishes all under 20 bucks, and touting the claim as Austin's first absinthe bar, Péché is definitely worth the trip.
Tastebud Teleportation: Lovexotic Takes Us Around the World
Visiting Asia, South America and Europe in one night could seem like a rather daunting task to someone without some sweet teleportation skills or a bankrolled time machine. Even if you could make it to all three, you would probably not have the minutes or digestional fortitude to sample the multitude of tastes that each place has to offer. Luckily for us, all of these worries will be whisked away on Sunday, October 25th by Lovexotic, a night of sounds, sights and savoriness, hosted by our fave Indian eatery The Clay Pit.

Austin Restaurant Week Premieres This Sunday
Spearheaded by Rare Austin Magazine and sponsored by austinist among others, the first Austin Restaurant Week kicks off this Sunday night. The much-anticipated culinary event is based on a simple concept: fine dining at reasonable prices. For a total of eight tasty days (Austin Restaurant Weeks sounded a little silly) diners are invited to enjoy three-course prix-fixe menus for $25-$35 in venues all around Austin.
Austin Bites: mulberry
In spite of its bias against capital letters, mulberry is a wine bar that doesn’t suck. Located on the ground floor of the spankin’ new 360 Condominiums on a dead end street across from the Austin Music Hall, its inconspicuous location won’t lend itself to being discovered merely in passing.

Austin (Veggie) Bites: Vegan Enchilada Roundup
Plenty of Austin publications routinely print lists of the best and most popular (which aren’t always the same thing) Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in town. When was the last time anyone bothered to ask vegans?
Right, right – the words “vegan” and “enchilada” are mutually exclusive. After all, vegans don’t want enchiladas con carne, or with sour cream sauce, or even with cheese. But being vegan does not preclude being a hungry Texan, and for lucky Austinites, the options are perhaps shockingly numerous.

Food and Wine Preview: Tour De Vin At Whole Foods Tomorrow
This morning, we actually saw some fall weather outside - at least for an hour or two. Celebrate this development and the beginning of red wine season with the Wine and Food Foundation's Tour De Vin, an annual tradition on the Whole Foods Downtown rooftop deck. The event celebrates wine from around the globe, and this year's lineup offers quite a bit to choose from. Our top picks include the lovely new world reds of Montes, the amazing Oregon Pinot Noirs of Archery Summit, Washington rising stars Amavi and Pepper Bridge, bargain priced gems from Santa Ema, and the lush California reds of Turnbull. There are dozens more to try, but these are the wines we'd taste first - a visit to any of these tables should leave you reeling.

Scotch Tasting At Opal's
Fans of the single malt goodness should call 512-707-0237 or stop by Opal Divine's Penn Field in person to reserve a spot for a Glenlivet Speyside Scotch Whisky class on Wednesday evening. Instructor Mark Cronin from Glenlivet will taste attendees through a number of different Scotches and explain their differences, and a buffet of hearty smoked salmon, cheeses, breads, and meats will also be included. Unfortunately, there's no Haggis on the buffet, and Sean Connery does not plan to attend, but you can't have everything. Tickets are $25, advance booking is recommended, and the event begins at 7pm.
