Music News: Metallica Picks On Austin for Orion Music Festival, Explosions In The Sky Tour

Today we received word that everyone's favorite thrash band that knows how to work through their feelings have created their own music festival. Entitled the Orion Music + More, the event will take place on June 23rd and 24th of this year in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Appropriately, the first tickets will be sold to members of the Met Club, which is like Club Med for people who like being yelled at, and regular tickets for regular people go on sale the 11th and start at $150 for a 2-day pass.

Why are we telling you all this crap about Metallica and New Jersey? Well, only because Austin is well-represented in the original sixteen acts announced for Orion. The Sword, Roky Erikson, The Black Angels, and Gary Clark Jr. will all be playing, alongside non-local bands including Hot Snakes, Modest Mouse, and Liturgy. Also playing: Best Coast, as if lead lady Bethany Cosentino is on a mission this year to prove that she is metal as well as punk as fuck.

For whatever reason, Explosions in the Sky were not in the first round of bands announced for Orion, but that's fine because they were busy anyway. The band will be on tour throughout part of April and later hit Sasquatch in May. No Austin dates, but they are hitting San Antonio.
