Did you know Thursdays are free at the Blanton Museum of Art? If you didn't, this Thursday is a perfect time to drop by on UT's dime to experience the internationally acclaimed artist El Anatsui's show, When I Last Wrote to You about Africa before it closes this Sunday.

El Anatsui is a West African artist who’s been recognized as, "one of the most original and compelling of his generation" and this show, organized by the Museum for African Art in New York City, spans four decades of his work drawn from collections worldwide.

Anatsui's style centers on transforming raw materials like wood and broken ceramics into strong visual statements that capture his global perspective. In some of his latest acclaimed work, he turns liquor-bottle tops into mesmerizing visual patterns, transforming consumer trash into work that recalls painting and sculpture.

This weekend is the last chance to catch one of the most influential African artists in the world in his largest United States show ever, right in our backyard.
