Music News Roundup: John Aielli Recovers, Beerland Stays Put, More

  • KUT Austin let us know last night that "Eklektikos Host John Aielli is in the hospital recovering from a heart attack on Wednesday evening. He is in good spirits with a good prognosis. KUT looks forward to John returning to Eklektikos as soon as his doctors give him the green light and right now that looks like early next week. In the meantime, he appreciates respect for his privacy as he recovers." Spike Gillespie has created a "Get Well Soon John!" blog as well. In 2008, we published a photo collection documenting "Austin's DJ" by Patrick Dentler, from which the above shot is taken. [Update from KUT: KUT Eklektikos Host John Aielli continues to recuperate from his Jan. 4 heart attack. His doctors say he is recovering well. John appreciates all the well wishes he’s received and he says he hopes to return to the airwaves possibly as soon as Monday, Jan. 16. KUT's Jody Denberg will continue to host Eklektikos until John returns. On a side note, Stewart Vanderwilt (KUT’s GM) spent some time visiting John in the hospital yesterday and said when he walked onto the floor to pay him a visit, he saw John standing there - in his cargo pants and red sweater - chatting up other patients in the hallway. The average passerby would have taken him for a visitor, not a patient!]
  • Beerland posted their intent to not high tail it anytime soon on their facebook page today: "In response to the latest round of rumors, Beerland has indeed renewed its lease. So, as long as enough people keep coming to shows and we can keep paying our bills, we'll stick around a bit longer. Thanks!"
  • In case you hadn't already heard, North Austin record and video store Encore is closing.
