Bill Baird Digs Deep Into Sound, Is Skeptical About Your Sunglasses
When the time comes to report the newest news about local producer/songwriter/documentary subject Bill Baird, he has typically amassed more than a few projects in the interim since the last time we wrote about him, and today's installment is no exception. Baird is teaming up with former fashion designer/current filmmaker Tomer Gendler for a film where they're going to journey to India to "record G-d. To capture with a camera and microphone the magic that we believe exists in this world," and otherwise approach sound and music from a philosophical and religious perspective. The upcoming film, if financed, will be called The Origin of Sound.
Tomer Gendler also worked with photographer Roni Gendler and with Baird on a video for "Your Dark Sunglasses," a new song that will be featured on the upcoming March release Career.

We've known Baird most typically paired up with various musicians under the name Sunset (which has also been spelled a variety of ways), but for now he's recording under the name Blank Fritz, a change he explains on his blog.
"Blank Fritz is the name of my new band, whenever it comes together. For the time being, I am playing alone. Perhaps a bit premature, or perhaps a bit optimistically, I named the site Blank Fritz. Now it is just a name sitting there, a reminder that I am playing solo and have not gotten another band together.
Sunset was always an evolving concept but it went too far in one direction and when that group of people fell apart, I needed a break from the name, even though on many of the recordings I had played everything. It had morphed into another entity. And when that entity died (or, rather, continued on with Sleep Good, gawd bless em) I decided to take a deep long breath."
Baird also recorded a cover of the Christopher Cross mega-hit "Sailing," possibly out of a geographical communion with the artist - both are from San Antonio - or maybe just because why wouldn't you want to cover that song?
