The death of guitarist Cory Smoot (a.k.a. Flattus Maximus) of Gwar at the beginning of the month threw the band's current tour - if not future in general - into uncertainty. This major loss for the band did not result in a tour cancellation after all, and Gwar is continuing their trek with a stop in Austin tonight. Lead singer Dave Brockie made this statement on Gwar's official website prior to completion of their European dates: “When Cory died, we all wanted to go home and take care of the family and our own grief. But the best way to do that is by playing all the shows we have planned. The response from the U.S. metal community and especially the whole international GWAR family has been overwhelmingly supportive these GWAR fans need the chance to pay their respects to Cory, and cancelling any shows would deprive them of that.” Metal Blade has also set up a fund for Smoot's family.
Note that the venue has changed from the East Side Drive In to the Marchesa Theater, where Gwar will be joined by Every Time I Die and Warbeast.
