Halloween is just around the corner, which, of course, means the annual twinning of creative costumes and drunken debauchery that so colorfully marks the welcoming of All Saints' Day. It's always great fun, as long as you avoid certain areas of town. And, well, what if you could pair all this with live music as performed by some of Austin's most terrifying, trance-inducing bands? What if??

Because tonight, 91.7FM KVRX is throwing their annual costume ball at the 29th Street Ballroom, giving you the opportunity to debut your Halloween attire as well as the chance to see for how long you can bob your head while wearing it. The stacked lineup, organized by S U R V I V E's Adam Jones, is headlined by Bodytronix, a DJ duo mixing airy atmospherics with disco-influenced electronic backbeats to create extended jams. The synth-heavy darkwave of Missions should be a perfect fit for the occasion, as should experimental electronic dancemasters Total Unicorn, who have been known to perform in costume in the past.

Also helping out are Thousand Foot Whale Claw, a droney, ambient group whose music sounds like rocket afterburners firing up. Jesse Jenkins of Pure X is a member, and his main band shares some of the same ecstatic interstellar hum as Thousand Foot Whale Claw.

And finally, the one-man project that is Silent Land Time Machine will do his part. His summer EP, which we reviewed here, is one of our favorite records of the year. It layers all kinds of sounds, from piano plinks, cello and soft acoustic guitar to forlorn viola, wordless vocals and colorful ambient sounds to create mesmerizing tunes that seem to spiral upward into a hypnosis-inducing clamor.

That all makes for a great local lineup, and with $1 Lonestar all night, you won't want to miss it.
