Even though most of America has turned down the volume on their radios long ago and pressed play on their iPods, community radio is still chugging along in an age where digital music was supposed to have killed the radio star. Luckily, for us in Austin, we still have the brave and adventurous programming of KOOP radio. If you've never tuned in KOOP, you've been missing out on a tremendous amount of noise, avant-jazz, neo-classical, reggae, and progressive talk radio.

Nevertheless, if you've never tuned in or are a veteran listener, there is still time to help keep them radio waves flowing with their benefit show tonight at Cheer Up Charlie's. For only five clams, your ears, nose, and eyes will be treated to some of the best and brightest from the local music scene. Rayon Beach will get the party started with their lysergic tinged garage rock. If you are still looking for the ghost of Syd Barrett, you've finally found it. Meanwhile, She Sir let the good times roll as their hypnagogic garage rock will have you staring at something, just not your shoes. At some point in the evening, the Flying Turns crew will confound the mostly rock oriented lineup, warping Cheer Up Charlies back to the heyday of Studio 54. This crew of disco freaks have been known to get even the most seasoned wallflowers' feet moving. Last, but not least, Kay Leotard bring some much needed estrogen to the fundraiser, instituting a "sisterhood of psychedelic sex rock" wherever they play. Holy Wave, Church Shoes, and Bobby Jealousy clean up the rest of the night.
