Citizens of Texas have done a great job so far of coming together to help the communities affected by the recent, tragic wildfires, but the work is far from over. Recovery efforts will likely continue for months, and the people affected need all the help we can offer.
This Sunday you'll have a chance to contribute to the cause by attending an advance screening of Richard Linklater's latest film, Bernie. Largely filmed in Bastrop, Bernie stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey, and it tells the true story of a quirky group of characters living in in a small Texas town. Though not set to be released until next year, Linklater and friends (this event is being presented by The Austin Film Society, The Paramount Theater and j.k. livin) decided to host a preview at the Paramount this Sunday that will raise money for various groups, including the Bastrop Emergency Food Pantry, Heart of the Pines Volunteer Fire Department, and more.
Tickets are $100 for general seating and $250 for special reserved seating. Sponsorships are available as well, and it's also possible to buy and donate tickets for Bastrop residents to attend. The online box office is open now.
