The Order of Hierophanous Intonement has summoned you. Far beyond the mortal confines of guitars, drums, and set breaks, the Order has constructed a Ouroborus of sound for the alteration of your consciousness. Just as the snake’s mouth continuously feeds on its own tail, so will the will music; for four hours, Austin’s finest lords of the drone will continuously--no breaks between sets--destroy any sense of reality that you might have harbored.
Some of the artist melting faces include sinister folkies Language of Light, who channel weird, pagan vibes―think Comus-- while reminding us that folk music can be just as evil (if not more so) than your grandma’s average metal band. These guys are the real deal, garnering ecstatic reviews from underground tastemakers like Byron Coley and Dusted Magazine. Beyond good and evil is R. Lee Dockery. Dockery loops his upright bass into a poignant, pocket symphony, through a rash of weird pedals and buttons, revealing some pensive string drones reminiscent of Stars of the Lid. One of the biggest treats in this sonic buffet is definitely Malloc. Celebrating the release of his new E.P. Louisian Stars, Malloc’s influences draw from a range of disparately similar artists, including Aphex Twin and Steve Reich. The alpha and the omega of the festivities, local sound artist Thomas Fang is no stranger to new sonic territories, always boldly going there. Fang’s music effortlessly moves from pleasing textures to more dark and brooding territory.
Likewise, Smokey Emery will be leading the audience into more sinister dimensions with their singular take on dark ambient. In addition, the show plans to reveal “mystery ensembles and spontaneous permutations after midnight.” That can only mean some sort of cosmic jam session between the monolith from 2001: Space Odyssey and Thousand Foot Whale Claw. Turn on, tune in, drone out!
