City Council Changes the Plan for Extended Parking Meter Hours Downtown

We spent a large chunk of yesterday afternoon with eyes on @CityHallHustle's live-tweets as the city council mulled over Mike Martinez's suggested extended parking meter hour compromise during their meeting. There was disagreement on the changed grid in this compromise. Councilman Bill Spelman moved that the cutoff in the compromise (8th Street) be moved back up to 10th Street. The council voted 4-3 in favor of extending parking meter hours for the streets in the area between 1st and 10th, IH-35 and Lamar.

However, the updated days and times were included in the plan that passed yesterday. Come September 6, the meters in this segment of downtown will cut off after 6pm on Mondays through Wednesdays, but will charge til midnight on Thursdays through Saturdays. Sundays remain free. As far as enforcement goes, warnings will be given the first month, but in October, APD will start ticketing.
