Opening: A Twist on Sushi At Roll On Sushi Diner

Roll On Sushi Diner, a concept restaurant that serves fusion items like the Cholesta Roll (chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes instead of rice, deep fried and served with cream gravy) alongside more traditional offerings like a spicy tuna roll, served in a diner-setting, is opening this Thursday, August 18 at 5350 Burnet Road in the AMLI building.

Owners Chad and Chip Reed came up with the sushi diner concept after eating at a similar restaurant in California and put their own twist on the place--thus the emphasis on "Austin Hybrid" rolls like The Elvis, which is a fried spring roll filled with peanut butter, bacon and banana and The Grouch, which involves green chile, chicken, and, in true Austin form, a tortilla. If you lean toward a more traditional sushi experience, consider the California roll, which is made with blue crab (instead of krab), cucumber and avocado.

Each menu item is a fixed price, which corresponds with the color of the plate the dish is served on. Prices range from $3.95 to $6.95 and take-out is available. Roll on Sushi Diner is open Monday through Saturday from 11am-9pm.
