Weekly Music Picks - Never Rain

Local Austin acts are not slouching this week, but our attention can't help but be captured by some major touring acts coming into town this week - the Belfast punks Stiff Little Fingers play Emo's on Friday, Dead Prez does Red 7 the same night, and on Saturday the latter venue celebrates its 5th anniversary with a show featuring doom pioneers St. Vitus.

Monday:

Today is Monday, and the Drafthouse is showing Repo Man as part of their Music Monday series. Good film - Emilio Estevez at his dickish best? Knuckle Rumber is throwing a show at Skinny's with Cactus Peach, Sneeze and more.

Tuesday:

Hoo-rah, Austinist indieroke is back! Come out this evening to the Mohawk for your favorite indie rock/your unavoidable karaoke fare like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” sung by you, your friends, us, strangers, and maybe a lost wedding party from the German Freehouse. The Chronicle is having their Papercuts music series that night with The Sour Notes: RSVP required.

Wednesday:

While some bands are influenced by Leonard Cohen and heartbreak or love, Nashville's The Protomen are influenced by Mega Man. They'll be joined at Emo's this evening by Descendants of Erdrick, “Austin's Premier Video Game Tribute Band.” Bush are back at Stubb's, and the Hole in the Wall is hosting a big show with Brooklyn's Johanna and the Dusty Floor, Bird Call, and more playing with our own Monarchs.

Thursday:

This eve Followed By Static and John Wesley Coleman play Emo's, and an inside show at the Mohawk featuring Coyotes, Mobley, and Cowboy and Indian Bear. If you're not intending to stay out late, you can catch Fuzz and Bangs, Antero Sleeps, and Old and Ill playing Trailer Space records starting at 7pm.

Friday:

Yes - the aforementioned Stiff Little Fingers play Emo's outside with support from Crash Gallery and Flesh Lights, while inside The Calm Blue Sea, My Education and Clouds Are Ghosts celebrate the latter's new record release. Down the street, hip hop takes over Red 7 with Dead Prez, Riders Against the Storm, Roosh Williams, and more.

Saturday and Sunday:

Slow down for the big doom show at Red 7 with St. Vitus, The Roller and Mala Suerte, or get hyper but in an emo way for The Appleseed Cast at the ND. Devin the Dude plays Lamberts, and OBN III's, Liquor Store, and Natural Child play the Spiderhouse Ballroom.

Red7 is finishing off the weekend with their “Sausage Fest” on Sunday. Brink of Disaster plays.
