Hush: If You Build It Will They Come Out?

Austin's more adventurous gays have already wandered past the usual 4th street haunts and discovered Austin's newest gay bar, Hush. Two of Austin's long time bar barons have ventured into business of the homosexual persuasion, which coincidentally befits the partnered couple. While Hush has been open for business for about a month, last week was its official coming out party.

Located in the building that formerly housed Light Bar, Hush features two dance floors, multiple rooms, a rooftop lounge, and a late bed time - all crucial for attracting the cruising homosexual. If you ever made a late night stop at Light Bar, you'll recognize the posh interior design and the waterfall wall. The main bar is manhandled by shirtless bartenders that you'll easily forgive for messing up your vodka tonic.

To sum it up, Hush is everything Kiss and Fly wishes it could be: classy and gay-owned.

But in an ever segmented community, can Hush find the audience it needs as yet another upscale gay bar? It seems unlikely to attract non-4th street gays and even more unlikely to unseat Rain as the trendiest gay bar in Austin any time soon. Last week's grand opening party brought in a large and very attractive crowd that could be a good sign. And who knows, maybe the pessimists will be proven wrong - that other bar's still open.

This weekend, take Hush out for a spin and share all your SFW memories on the internets.

Hush is located at 408 Congress Ave and is open 7:00pm-3:00am Friday and Saturday, 4:00pm-2:00am Sunday, 7:00pm-2:00am Monday-Thursday.
