Indie Picks: At The Movies This Weekend
As we head into a holiday weekend, there aren't many new openings in town because the films that are currently playing have been doing so well. Malick's The Tree Of Life has already crossed the $6 million mark at the box office while playing in fairly limited release. Woody Allen's Midnight In Paris has hit $30 million, becoming his most successful film in the United States since 1986.
If you haven't seen those films yet (or our recent fave Beginners), this weekend is a good opportunity to catch up. If you're a documentary fan, the next month should prove to be a good one for you, as well. In addition to current releases Cave Of Forgotten Dreams and Buck, this weekend's lone new release hits town with lots of critical acclaim. You can expect L'Amour Fou, Project Nim and Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest to hit area screens in the next few weeks.

Andrew Rossi's documentary premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival (and debuted locally at SXSW). It offers a fly-on-the-wall perspective from inside the print behemoth through the eyes of staff media reporters like David Carr and Brian Stelter. In just ninety minutes, Rossi's cameras chronicle an entire year at the newspaper and look at the struggles of the old media world as its user base shifts online.
