Food Gossip: El Naranjo, Teuscher, Wine Down Wednesdays + Shiner

Taco Time Shift: The often amazing El Naranjo has elected to close for lunch indefinitely due to the heat. A staffer on site told us that the 100+ degree days simply deflated the lunch business to the point where it wasn't sensible to open. Dinner hours are still in effect, though the trailer will be closed on July 4th for the holiday. The staffer also mentioned that construction on the permanent El Naranjo storefront is scheduled to begin "in a few weeks" and that the trailer will likely move to another spot nearby during construction.

Truffles No More: The 2nd Street district location of high-end chocolatier Teuscher vanished recently, with no explanation on the shop's official site. The Swiss company served delicious (and very expensive) truffles from the shop for roughly two and a half years. The site is currently being repurposed into an espresso bar from the new exterior signage.

Beer + A Haircut: After years of offering PBR, Birds Barbershop has heeded the "go local" mantra and switched suds providers to Shiner. Shiner Bock and Shiner Light Blonde will now be offered to shop patrons who'd like a buzz to go with their buzzcut. Michael Portman of Birds puts it plainly: "Making someone’s day is the ultimate co-branding opportunity, and nothing does that quite like a free Shiner to go with a new haircut.”

Wine Down, But Don't Drop Your Glass: Despite the crazy past week at The W, the ACL Live venue's Wine Down Wednesday series is scheduled to resume on July 6th with a performance from Dan Dyer and complimentary nibbles from Malaga. They'll also host a date on July 13th with music from Wendy Colonna and free snacks from TRACE. The event takes place from 5-7pm, and Clos Du Bois (the event's sponsor) wines are served at a discount during the event.
