Food: July 4th Means Burgers

Burgers + Blues: On Saturday, Fall Creek Vineyards hosts a "Burgers + Blues" Independence Day celebration from 11am to 5pm, which includes a lunch service from noon to 2pm. For $16, guests can pair a wine tasting with a Bubba burger, sweet potato fries, cole slaw, and a brownie, while kids can participate (sans wine) for $8. Advance reservations are requested (325.379.5361) but not required. Blues music from Bill Rives and Corporal Punishment will also be featured throughout the afternoon. Fall Creek Vineyards is located in Tow, TX - about 85 miles NW of Austin.

Burger Happy Hour: On Independence Day, North Central Austin stalwart Chez Zee celebrates that most American of July 4th traditions - the burger cookout. From 9am to 3pm, burgers at Chez Zee are only $6 (which is $4-$6 less than the usual pricing.) In addition, happy hour pricing on all drinks will apply, meaning your holiday libations will be up to $3 less than usual. Reservations are suggested at 512.454.2666.

Burger Guide: Leave it to The Onion's A.V. Club to stop the Franklin BBQ insanity and turn to a different kind of red meat for inspiration. The site has started a new feature titled Cattle Crawl which trolls for the best burgers in the city, be they meat or veggie-based. The first column focuses on Burnet Road's Hat Creek Burger, which is deemed "dependable, though not entirely rave-worthy." If only we'd thought of this idea first. Look for more entries at the A.V. Club over the summer.
