Indie Picks: At The Movies This Weekend

Midnight In Paris (Alamo Lake Creek, Violet Crown Cinema, Regal Arbor, Tinseltown 17, AMC Barton Creek)
The latest film from Woody Allen is on track to be his biggest hit since 2008's Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Last week, the film made it to number seven on the box office charts while only on 58 screens. This weekend, Sony Pictures Classics boosts the screen count to almost 1000 theaters and you can catch it at multiple theaters across town.

Midnight In Paris is Allen's 42nd feature-length film and opened the Cannes Film Festival last month. Woody appears less often in his recent films, but there's a usually a surrogate character for himself. This time around, that role is filled by former UT student Owen Wilson. The cast also features Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates and Marion Cotillard. This is not the first time that Wilson and McAdams have been paired up as a couple in film. They did it first in 2005's Wedding Crashers.

The Double Hour (Regal Arbor)
This thriller first debuted at the 2009 Venice Film Festival where the film won three awards, including Kseniya Rappoport as Best Actress. It still seems a little surprising that such a clever film appeared from director Giuseppe Capotondi, a man better known for his Vanity Fair photographs and videos for pop stars like the Spice Girls and Natalie Imbruglia.

Already a massive hit in its native Italy, the movie was finally picked up for domestic distribution by Samuel Goldwyn Films. There have been several bidders bickering over who is going to end up with the rights to an American remake. Here's your chance to see the original, a film The New York Times called "The best movie of its kind since Tell No One."
