Texas Monthly BBQ Festival Returns On 10/30; VIP Tix Available Now
Sunday, October 30
Long Center for Performing Arts (701 W. Riverside Drive)
$58-$118, Noon-5pm
[info] | [tickets]
New this year: VIP tickets. 500 VIP tickets priced at $118 went on sale yesterday, and as of this writing, over half of them are already gone. The primary benefit of the tickets is early entry - from noon on, VIP ticketholders have a one hour run of the place before the general ticketholders come in at 1pm. This first hour will also allow many of the pitmasters to chat with VIP's and share their smoking secrets before the 1pm lunch rush. VIP tickets also include two drink tickets, a Texas Monthly subscription, a T-shirt, and a Q Card good for BBQ discounts statewide.
If dropping a c-note for BBQ doesn't work for you, there is another option - regular tickets (at half the price - $58) go on sale August 10th. These will provide the same benefits as last year: unlimited BBQ. We can't overstate how much delicious food was available last year, and all of it is included in your ticket price. There will also be a cash bar, ATM's on site (new this year), and cash-and-carry BBQ available for purchase if you'd like to take home, say, a whole Snow's brisket. Finally, since we are in Austin, there will be live music to entertain the crowds - though we suspect the smoker aromas and the skyline views and such would be enough entertainment for many.
Whether VIP or general, these tickets flew off the shelves last year, so don't waffle on this if you are a BBQ fan - or you'll be waiting until Fall 2012. All of this comes on the heels of TM's launch of their Texas Monthly BBQ Finder App, which provides Texas Monthly BBQ reviews, GPS mapping for BBQ road trips, user-submitted tips on best dishes and undiscovered gems, and (we kid you not) BBQ social networking. Silverstein said that BBQ fans should watch the app this summer for news about new additions to the festival and some fun BBQ-related giveaways and promotions - but that that content is still under development.
