The Antlers - Tonight at Emo's [Show Preview]
Hot on the heels of their latest release, last month’s Bust Apart, the Antlers bring their dramatic, three-piece production to Emo’s tonight. Nearing the half-way mark for best of 2011, Burst Apart may be one of their most well-rounded release, an accessible follow up to their groundbreaking 2009 release Hospice - their epic doctor-patient concept album full of heart-wrenching songs that maybe, kind of, made you cry that time, when no one was looking?
The Antlers certainly set themselves up for a hard act to follow with this new release, but this Brooklyn-based band has proven themselves a strong, evolving trio capable of creating some truly enchanting, atmospheric music. After all, this is a band that began as Peter Silberman's solo project in 2007, and look where they are now. Their crescendo/decrescendos song structures are filled with complex instrumentation provided by Darb Cicci (keyboards, trumpet, bowed banjo) and Michael Lerner (percussion). Their formula works wonders - Silberman's ethereal vocals, packed with emotionally tinged lyrics, float perfectly upon the beautifully layered, dreamlike orchestration. Tonight's show promises to be something special.
Little Scream opens with doors at 9pm.
