Orson Welles Double Feature: Touch of Evil & F for Fake at the Paramount [Film]
The later films of Orson Welles are being featured at the Paramount this week. They were supposed to start tonight, but a sold-out special screening of Terrence Malick's Tree of Life is on instead. Tomorrow night, 1958's Touch of Evil and 1973's F for Fake will be shown, and the Paramount will even have costume pieces formerly worn by Welles on display for the screenings.
Touch of Evil stars Charlton Heston as Mexican drug enforcement agent (yes, you read that right) Miguel Vargas, recently wedded to American Susie (Janet Leigh). This young couple is thrown into a world of mayhem after a bomb goes off on the American side of the USA/Mexico border. Orson Welles, the B-film's director, plays a sketchy police captain. Welles starts with a long tracking shot that sets the tone for the rest of the film. Touch of Evil plays Wednesday, June 1, at 7pm. [info/tickets]
The final film completed by Welles, F for Fake is a sort of film essay/documentary that focuses on forgery, authenticity, and hoaxes. As Welles covers historical deceits and frauds, he tosses some of his own into the mix. While not that well-received when it originally came out, the film has come to be renowned for its groundbreaking editing techniques. F for Fake plays Wednesday, June 1, at 9pm. [info/tickets]
General reminder for Paramount screenings: Online tickets are discounted, but aren't available for purchase on the day of the show. Since this is a double feature, if you buy a ticket for Touch of Evil, you can stay to see F for Fake as well.
