Weekly Music Picks - The Warming

While we have our eye on Chaos in Tejas at the beginning of June, enough is happening in town during this month to keep your spirits high. As for this week, it's folk, benefits, and the rawk.

Monday:

Quiet(er) on the streets as usual, tonight nonetheless presents an opportunity to experience music by way of documentary - the Ritz Drafthouse is showing Sly Stone: Coming Back For More, a film about the brilliant but reclusive musician who helped define the sound of the late '60s and '70s.

Tuesday:

The electronic duo Acrylics are playing the Mohawk with Junip, a band that features Jose Gonzales and a full band. A free afterparty inside featuring Lean Hounds kicks off at 10.

Wednesday:

The Creamers are hosting a cd release party at Beerland with Daylight Robbery, Libyans, and Ghost Knife.

Thursday:

Nice loud show at Emo's with Dixie Witch, Fur King and The Roller. Doom rockers The Roller seemed on a hiatus for a bit, so it's nice that they're up and bursting eardrums again (slowly).

Friday:

Newer bar The Legendary White Swan is having a party for Love Inks, who are releasing a record and going on tour. Soft Healer plays, as well as Boyfriend (ex-Sleep Over) and Cari Palazzolo. Manikin have their own cd release at Cheer Up Charlies, and we'll be talking more about both shows later in the week. Austin Bat Cave has a cd release show at the Mohawk, which we'll also be talking about in a bit.

Saturday and Sunday:

A benefit for musician Nick Curran takes place at Red7 featuring a Misfits cover band and an all-lady Ramones tribute. Lean Hounds play their second show of the week with Lovers at the Beauty Bar.

On Sunday, The Smoking Popes play The Parish with Girl In A Coma and Markov.
