The Funniest Semi-Finalists in Austin: FPIA Round One Recaps (Part 3)
Cody Hustak
Was this your first year competing in FPIA?
This is my second year putting my struggle, my life, my art on exhibit on the FPIA showing stage. Last year I feel that I was lucky to make it to the finals, using my good looks and overall marketability to the ‘Wood to my advantage. This year I have made strides to dull my naturally attractive appearances. The inside of this book is competing this year.
What was your preliminary round like?
We told some jokes, but people forget that it was a charitable event. A lot of comfort food was collected for the homely.
Any predictions for the finals?
Hearts will be broken. There will be sorrow. Contempt for the chosen. The beginning of a bitter tomorrow.
What do you imagine holding the title of FPIA is like?
I imagine it bringing great power and control over Austin’s comedians. Feeling invincible would be welcomed. The $2,500 prize and Applebee’s franchise are nice perks. Only that loose-lipped little bitch named time will tell whether any of these are actual benefits or prizes.

Was this your first year competing in FPIA?
It’s my second. Last year I made it to the finals based more on my personality than my jokes. This year I'm hoping the judges will see through to my looks.
What was your preliminary round like?
Competitive and stressful. Compessful.
Any predictions for the finals?
There are so many talented comics who have the ability to win. The important thing to keep in mind is, at the end of the day, you've got to be able to look yourself in the mirror and be comfortable in your own skin. Or else you're not. Or, a third option, you're like that weird Buffalo Bill guy and that's just cheating, you know what I mean?
What do you imagine holding the title of FPIA is like?
I imagine my family will come out of the woodwork and then quickly scurry back when they realize there's no money to be had from winning and I'm apparently draped in a cape made most of semen. Mostly.

Lashonda Lester
Was this your first year competing in FPIA?
No, my first FPIA was in 2009.
What was your preliminary round like?
When I competed in 2009, I was still pretty new to comedy. Only a handful of people knew who I was. I went up dead last, had a killer set and advanced. The only problem was I didn't really have material so I ended up writing a new set within a few weeks for FPIA. You live and learn.
Any predictions for the Finals?
I predict every stand up comic in Austin will breathe a sigh of relief when the finals are over!
What do you imagine holding the title of FPIA is like?
I imagine being FPIA will get you discounted food, free Crown Royal whiskey and a lifetime membership into the Illuminati.
