Free Comic Book Day on Siete de Mayo
Saturday marks the 10th anniversary of the comic book holiday and a great excuse to head to one of Austin’s comic spots (and you’ll get a little sun too, waiting in the parking lot). Not only will there be free comics, (Austin Books and Comics is boasting 10 per person!) but signings, food, people sweating in costumes, raffles of some sort, and frankly the most people you’ll see in a comic book store all year.
Austin Books and Comics, where you can get your ten free comics, is selling some cold treats from Hero’s (you might recognize them as a family member of East Side Drive In), and having storm troopers make the rounds, as well as a door prize drawing, Chris Roberson of Elric fame and artists from CCP comics who will be sketching the costumed and plainclothes alike. Dragon’s Lair is playing host to four signing artists and writers (one of which is the incredible Brett Weldele who will there for his new comic, Spontaneous) on top of their free selections. Those two seem like the best bets, but Tribe and Capstone seem to be participating as well.
