Although White Rabbits' last album dropped almost two years ago, they are stopping by Emo's tonight in the midst of a mini-Texas tour. You may recall their first single, "The Plot" from Fort Nightly released in 2007, or "Percussion Gun" from the 2009 album It's Frightening. Originally formed in 2004 in their home state of Missouri, the group moved to Brooklyn before signing first with Say Hey Records and then TBD Records. White Rabbits have kept a relatively low profile for the last year, but the group has found time to perform on the "David Letterman Show", play ACL Festival in 2010, and were featured in a Season 4 episode of Friday Night Lights.
If you've followed any of those YouTube links above, you've probably fallen down the rabbit hole and watched several more videos of the White Rabbits' high energy shows. They usually feature multiple percussionists rotating instruments throughout the evening, along with catchy hooks, complicated time signatures, and smashing piano chords. Friday night at Emo's should be no exception to this and serve as a great ending to the last week of April.
According to their Twitter feed, @white_rabbits are in the midst of recording new tracks, and Friday night will bring previews of the new tunes, as well as some sweet new posters. And if that doesn't convince you to go, check out the humble beginnings of the group, when they all crammed into one Bushwick loft to eat, sleep, and breathe the band.
Opening for White Rabbits are two local favorites: TV Torso and The Sour Notes. TV Torso recently received accolades from Paste in their Best of What's Next feature. The Sour Notes recently released an album titled Last Looks and will be embarking on a summer tour up to New York soon.
